IPLD Buffalo Industry Day - Buffalo Sewer Authority / University at Buffalo (Utilities/Engineering)

This is our first opening industry day experience for the 2019-2020 year with our IPLD Buffalo students.  We will explore the world of utilities and engineering with the Buffalo Sewer Authority and understand how to utilize various tools to develop their projects at the University at Buffalo.

NOTE:  All IPLD Buffalo students are expected to attend this session for our first industry experience of the school year to start developing project ideas early!

1) Industry Trip Focus (Oct 14, 2019):

• Engineering / Utilities 
• 3D Printing / Solar Farms / Machine Shop / College Resources

Buffalo Sewer Authority (BSA):  Students will have an opportunity to go on a tour of the BSA and learn how the utility company supports the infrastructure of Buffalo through engineering, business and other scientific principles. Students will gain an understanding of career pathways and opportunities with BSA.

University at Buffalo:  Students will have a luncheon panel discussion with Architecture, Engineering and IT staff and students at the university and take an exploratory tour of the college behind the scenes.  Students will also learn how to start developing ideas for their projects.

ITINERARY

8:00am                  Student Drop-off:  Meet at Davis Hall (in front of Room 101) at the University at Buffalo

8:30am - 9:00am    Leave / Travel to Buffalo Sewer Authority (BSA)

9:00am - 11:30am  Utilities in Engineering / Career pathways (BSA)

11:30am - 12:00pm Travel back to University at Buffalo

12:00pm - 1:30pm  Luncheon / Engineering Panel Discussion

1:30pm - 3:30pm    Exploring Engineering at the University at Buffalo Tour

3:30pm - 5:00pm    IPLD Project Idea Development 

5:00pm                   Student Pickup:  Meet at Davis Hall (in front of Room 101) at the University at Buffalo

NOTE: Parents will receive a text alert when we are about to complete our experience 

2) Dress Code:  Business Casual Dress (w/ comfortable shoes) (priority).  We will be ordering shirts after students vote for their color of shirts during our experience.   

NOTE:  Please do not wear sandals.  BSA does not authorize sandals at their facility!

3)  IMPORTANT:  Please bring a notepad and pen/pencil on this experience!
