Today,
EduSerc announces it has received a $60K grant for one year from the Maryland
Higher Education Commission (MHEC) Maryland College Access Challenge Grant
Program (MCACGP) to implement a Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM) program for 40 students at Harlem Park Elementary/Middle
School.
EduSerc’s
signature program (Young Innovators) will be used as the tool for delivering
services to youth. The Young Innovators Program Junior Engineering
Program for Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School will entail hands-on
engineering projects with industry professionals, college tours, parent
training, college and career preparation training and a summer component for
students selected.

grant is pivotal for EduSerc as we’ve been working in BaltimoreCity
for the past six years serving middle and high schools,” said Brian K. Smith,
Executive Director of EduSerc. “Harlem Park Elementary/Middle School’s
story and team based approach to helping their students really inspired our staff
to implement our programs in their school. We are thankful for this
opportunity from MHEC as we hope to reach more students in the years to come.”
The
objectives of this grant for the school will be to:
to increase college awareness
and exposure to underrepresented students at Harlem Park Elementary/Middle
School
to expose, engage and train
students in areas of STEM and provide a hands-on working knowledge of
relative technologies with students at Harlem Park Elementary/Middle
School
to increase the number of
underrepresented students at Harlem Park
Elementary/Middle School with developed career plans
The
MCACGP is a new, federally-funded program designed to conduct outreach
activities and services to improve preparation for and access to college for
low-income students. This program will fund projects to provide information to
students, who are at risk of not enrolling in or completing college, and their
parents on postsecondary benefits, opportunities, and career planning and
preparation.
