Information Technology
Ever since Smith was 10 years old, he wanted to build and design video games after spending all of his allowance on playing video games at the local arcade on a regular basis. This fueled his interest in computer games, technology and other areas of science. His two older brothers were going into engineering-related fields and his father owned an electronics shop, so it seemed fitting for Smith to venture into a technology-related field.
However, one of Smith’s major strengths is programming in computers along with engineering. In fact, as a college student although he worked to earn his Electrical Engineering degree, he took software engineering related internships with IBM, GE and Motorola to balance his experience. At the time Smith was applying to college, there wasn’t a major called ‘Software Engineering’ in 1990. So, he decided to create his own software engineering experience by taking receiving an engineering degree with computer science work experience.
Now, Smith combines his skills of logical applications through technology into so many areas of his businesses and community-based organization.

Author / Writer
Brian K. Smith has written 2 books (Engineering Discovery and Technology Foundations) and working on 3 more in relation to engineering development, math and how to accomplish your goals in life. His passion is to continue writing for various other venues in his spare time.
Smith has always has a talent for writing songs, poems and other types of creations. Inspired by his mother’s poems and writings over the years growing up, Smith wrote his own content during an era when rap was mainstream. Smith wanted to become a rapper himself and called himself the ‘BKS’ which are his initials, but stood for ‘The Better Known Storyteller.’ His raps were all stories of experience that happened to him, and others that were fiction. But overall, his talents were creative and were mostly performed free-styling.
Artists like Curtis Blow, Salt ‘N Pepa, Kwame’, Kid and Play and The Fresh Prince influenced Smith to write his own raps with his friends and have rap battles outside of his lunch period at Crossland High School in Temple Hills, MD. With his talent for dancing, Smith entered various lipsync, rap and dance contests up to his sophomore year in college. Smith received the opportunity to meet Salt ‘M Pepa at a record store in Marlow Heights and even won 3rd place in a rap contest solely judged by MC Lyte herself during his freshman year in college. Smith also won other rap and hip hop dance contests and still loves to dance.
Now, Smith uses his writing talents to develop his curriculums for students and his public speeches, although he still free-styles his speeches without writing a single word down. Smith has a very good memory, but moreso writes and speaks from his heart at a moment’s notice.

Special Needs
Brian K. Smith has a daughter with down syndrome and works with her to help her with her speech and creative abilities. His experiences with her humbles his teaching abilities to develop innovative ways to learn for students with and without special needs.
With his wife on the board of directors for the ARC, a local organization that supports individuals with special needs, Smith receives knowledge, support and an additional appreciation for all individuals. Smith has learned that there is a local of understanding for people with disabilities and even a discriminatory factor that plays into people’s minds when working with them.
However, Smith reinforces, through his interactions with youth and adults, the lessons his daughter has taught him in appreciating life and an opportunity to live in a positive manner. This is caused Smith to ensure not only his life and his families is full of enrichment, but for others to understand that excellence is a requirement for sustained happiness in this world. Therefore, his daughter reinforces the reason why his skills of being innovative are a God-given gift to enrich the lives of others and not to only make money for himself and his family.
