Brian K. Smith - Founder & Executive Director
Brian K. Smith has been serving as a community leader, mentor, tutor and scholar for over 17 years. Mr. Smith exhibits proven leadership in inspiring, motivating and guiding youth to achieve their goals. Originally from Maryland, Mr. Smith began helping people at a young age while still in school. Amongst several of his accomplishments including Youth President of his church, Freshman and Senior Class President, and being inducted into the National Honor Society and Who’s Who among American High School Students , Mr. Smith devoted his spare time to helping his peers. Mr. Smith realized he possessed a talent to lead, teach, and inspire those around him.
After graduating high school with over 13 scholarships, Mr. Smith attended the University of Maryland and received his Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. While in college, Mr. Smith served as Steering Committee Chair and President of the Black Engineers Society. He later became a Regional Chairperson on the National Board of the National Society of Black Engineers. Mr. Smith also received many honors including the Martin Luther King Community Service Award, the USAA National Collegiate Engineering Award, and Who’s Who Among American Colleges and Universities. As a part time job, he still dedicated his time tutoring middle and high school students. During his summer months, he worked as a software engineer at IBM, General Electric Information Services (GEIS), and Motorola. During his time in Arizona, Mr. Smith discovered his purpose and started EduSerc out of a vision to raise the quality of life for youth and adults. He later moved back to Maryland and became employed by Sybase as a database consultant, where he receive numerous awards and accolades for his technical solutions on military projects solved in three days single-handed. A couple years later, he co-founded an IT consulting firm called SMITHSolutions providing database, software, and systems engineering solutions for the government and commercial industry.
With his background, Mr. Smith currently serves as a highly sought consultant and innovator for youth, adult and community educational-based programs. Ever since, Mr. Smith has been selected, appointed and elected as a top advisor, chairman and leader of many local and national engineering organizations and corporations to lead STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and many other community service efforts related to youth. Some of his affiliations and leadership roles include Project Lead the Way (Chairman - Northwestern High School), Prince George’s County Science and Technology Board , Parent and Student Advisory Board (Chairman), Black Data Processing Associates (National CIO) and most recently appointed in 2009 to Congressman Steny Hoyer’s Service Academy Board to interview and select young candidates to enter prestigious military academies.
In all, Mr. Smith has a lovely wife, two beautiful children and is actively involved in their lives as he continues to serve his community.
