Industry Mentor

Location:  Prince George's County, Maryland

Availability: 1 - 4 hours per month

Education:  Associates or Bachelor's Degree or above and Currently Working (Industry Professional)


Description: 

EduSerc is looking for volunteers to serve as an Industry Mentor within the Program Development Sector of the organization. This opportunity involves helping students learn and understand some of the basic hard and soft skills required for the completion of their industry projects, with a focus on the skills that are used in the world of work.  This also includes presentation skills.

Industry Mentors serve as industry experts and mentor one or more students in relation to a project related to their career interest.  Volunteers for this position must possess excellent
communication and speaking skills and be enthusiastic to learn new
things.

Industry Mentors may work with elementary, middle, high school or even college students and will be serving to perform the following tasks:

  • Answering questions on how the student's projects relate to the real world
  • Technical help on project development
  • Assistance with writing proposal letters for funding requests
  • Leadership assistance
  • Help on how to make a good presentation (oral, PowerPoint, etc.)
Volunteer Requirements
As a volunteer, you will be working on a team of other professionals on a committee to help further the objectives of the organization.  All volunteers when representing the organization in person must dress casual or business casual (no jeans) and must reflect the values associated with the organization being quality, professionalism and integrity.

All volunteers must review EduSerc's volunteer policies and procedures training video before serving as an official volunteer with EduSerc.

Background Check
Depending upon requirements (or the assignment), volunteers may be subject to a standard criminal background check due to requirements of local school systems or other entities for liability purposes.

Location
All work for this position must be performed at EduSerc Offices on
corporate equipment.

Technical Skills: 

  • Must be articulate in their field of study
  • Must know how to teach students how to make a presentation (of any kind)
